BARNET MENCAP

Barnet Mencap is a registered charity for children and adults in Barnet who have Learning Difficulties, and their families. Mencap offer a range of social and leisure activities. Mencap also offer information and individual advice and support for parents and carers. Their wonderful “Open Door” playscheme for under 5’s runs Thursday mornings at the Old Barn, East Finchley, N2.

BARNET PARENT PARTNERSHIP

Barnet Parent Partnership provides free and confidential, impartial information, advice, and support for parents/carers of children with special educational needs aged 0-19, resident in the London Borough of Barnet. This includes training and information workshops for parents/carers. The focus of Barnet Parent Partnership is on matters relating to education.

IPOP

IPOP offer a wide range of services and support to disabled children and their families resident in the London Borough of Barnet. This includes Family Music sessions for under 5’s, a Music School, Football School, Dance School, Stepping Stones Drama Group, and One to One Support.

One to One Support is available for 5-17 year olds who require 1-1 support playworkers in order for them to access mainstream play and leisure activities. Activities can take place in registered playschemes running after school, on weekends, or during school holidays. A service provided in partnership with the London Borough of Barnet’s Disabled Children’s Team, children who receive this support must meet the Council’s funding criteria and have a “play plan” agreed. LONDON BOROUGH OF BARNET- AUTISM ADVISORY TEAM

London Borough of Barnet’s Autism Advisory Team is made up of advisory teachers with expertise and training in working with children and young people with an autistic spectrum condition.
The Team liaises with parents/carers, supports the inclusion of children with an autistic spectrum condition in mainstream schools, advises/trains school staff and other professionals, and works in partnership with local parent bodies.
The Team can also advise parents of autistic preschool-age children about Barnet Early Autism Model, “BEAM”. This is an early intervention model in Barnet, which offers individualised packages of support.

London Borough of Barnet’s Disabled Children’s Team provides services to children resident in the London Borough of Barnet, who meet their criteria for support and intervention. The Team follow criteria before providing a service and will need to assess any children and families before offering services. Services offered include “play plans” For further information on the use of “play plans”, please refer above to “IPOP”.
Initial assessments are carried out by “Assessment and Referral” Teams.

RESOURCES FOR AUTISM

Resources for Autism is a registered charity offering a range of support for families affected by autism. Support includes “Escapades” Saturday playscheme for children with autism aged 8-12, a Wednesday Youth Club for teens with autism aged 12-19, Art and Music Therapy, and an Art Studio for Adults. Home-based support is also offered, through the charity’s “Reach Out” Scheme.
